Design UX Around User Goals, Not Features
Foundations & Process · user goals
Updated 2026-07-28
- Users do not open products because they want features. They open products because they want outcomes.
- Start with:
- What is the user trying to accomplish?
- What problem are they solving?
- What does success look like?
- Avoid designing around internal structures:
- Database fields.
- Team ownership.
- Technical limitations.
- Organize experiences around user intent:
- Create.
- Find.
- Edit.
- Share.
- Complete.
- A feature is valuable only when it helps users reach a goal.
